Gucci Joins the Fur-Free Retail Army

For decades now, Fashion has inspired and divided both the creative and moral minds of individuals. Deep in the heart of fashion lays a beauty that is both somewhat mythical and unattainable. Talented individuals conceptualise how to piece together fibres and textures to create pieces of pure art.

However, in the recent years, the consciousness of people has pushed some of the biggest fashion houses in the world to dissect their concepts and rationalise both the sustainability of fashion and the ethos behind animal rights and conservation.

The latest heavy-hitting fashion house to join the ranks of those to ban the use of Fur is none other than the luxury label that started the current fur loafer trend, Gucci.

Yes, Gucci has just announced that as of next year they will go fur free and auction off their remaining pieces featuring fur and donate the money raised to animal rights charities such as Humane Society International and LAV.

Chief executive of Gucci, Marco Bizzari has stated that as of Spring / Summer 2018, Gucci will be completely fur free as being socially responsible is one of Gucci's core values.

"We will continue to strive to do better for the environment and animal's" stated Bizzari.

Fashion is all about trend and such is the way of a trend that when one person starts, the domino effect takes place. We can only hope that with Gucci now joining the ranks of design houses such as Stella McCartney and Calvin Klein who are completely Fur free and animal rights advocates, the latest trend is fashion will be consciousness.

We all have a responsibility as individuals to make conscious choices regarding our wellbeing and that of the environment but it is so refreshing to know that luxury fashion houses are now also becoming more conscious as to what they produce and expose their clientele to.
Fashion is a fast evolution and technology has far surpassed any expectation we could have ever imagined. With synthetic fur being at the highest of quality it has ever been produced at, the question has always remained, why hasn't fashion changed the trend when it comes to fur?
